We Are the Lucky Country

Weavin believes Australia is the lucky country.

We want Australia’s luck to continue as it navigates domestic and international challenges.

We bring rigorous analysis to the forces that drive prosperity in Australia's cities and regions.

What we believe

Australia is not perfect. We face real pressures from rising costs of living, housing affordability, technological disruption and declining trust in institutions. But it is still important to recognise something fundamental…..

By global standards, Australia remains one of the most fortunate societies in which to live.

Across measures of health, education, safety, freedom and living standards, Australia consistently ranks among the world’s leading countries. These foundations matter. They shape not only our quality of life today, but our capacity to navigate change in the decades ahead.

These outcomes are not accidental. They reflect natural advantages as well as decades of investment in public health, education, infrastructure and democratic institutions. They also reflect the contribution of communities across the country, from major cities to regional towns, that collectively sustain Australia’s prosperity and social fabric.

We also need to recognise that with domestic and international pressures seemingly increasing and becoming more complex, it is imperative Australia’s economy makes smart, timely and effective descisions to ensure our luck doesn’t run out.

What we explore

We shine a light on the cities and regions writing Australia's economic future including…..

The Coastal Boom of Geelong, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Wollongong, Newcastle. These coastal cities are evolving beyond lifestyle destinations into economic powerhouses.

The Megacity Engines of Brisbane, Melbourne's West & South-East, Sydney's South-West & North-West. These high-growth corridors are where Australia's metropolitan future is taking shape

The Reinvention Cities of Adelaide, Perth, Victoria's inland cities, Queensland's northern cities. These regions are transforming their industrial legacy into new economic identities.

How we weave

Weavin combines storytelling, analysis and conversation to better understand how Australia’s cities, towns and regions are changing, and where they may be heading next.

At the centre of this work is On the Move, a long-form podcast exploring the past, present and future of the places that collectively drive Australia’s economy, culture and living standards. Each deep-dive episode examines a region over time and looks ahead to the forces likely to shape its future.

Alongside these episodes, we speak with local leaders and experts, from mayors and business owners to planners, educators and economists. This grounds the national trends in real local experience. We also explore the cross-cutting issues affecting communities across the country, including migration, housing, work, technology and long-term economic resilience.

Through podcasts, short-form content and written insights, Weavin brings together analysis and diverse perspectives to help Australians better understand the places they live — and the role those places play in shaping our shared future.
